The GlasPacLX Data Conversion Program extracts data from  your previous GTS Services application (GlasPac DOS or GTS Windows) and  converts it to a form which GlasPacLX can read. None of the actual  data is altered. The data conversion program lets you decide which data  you want to convert at any given time, giving you the flexibility to  select all of your data at once or only very specific data, such  as:  1. Flat glass, labor, and parts 2. Customers,  discounts, and taxes 3. Quotes and workorders 4. Invoices  Before running the data conversion program, make sure  that you have read and addressed the preparatory steps for either GTS  Windows or GlasPac DOS which are essential to a successful conversion. Preparatory steps for converting the  data from GlasPac DOS

Before running the data conversion program,  make sure that you have read the following instructions to ensure a successful  conversion.

1. Before proceeding, please back up your GlasPacLX data.

2. When doing a GlasPac (DOS) conversion, it is critical that you understand the following information. If you do not plan to clear the database because you have already started entering data, you must make sure that before running conversion. A. The "Branch ID" in GlasPacLX is identical to the  "Location Code," found in Business Records, in GlasPac (DOS). Failure to  do so causes the conversion to create and to add data to a second  branch. If this occurs, call GTS Services Technical  Support.

B. Make sure that all users have closed out of all  GlasPac (DOS) workstations, including the server.

1. Perform the data conversion overnight or during a weekend, as this can be a time consuming process. Maintenance area  conversions take anywhere from 5 to 30 minutes. Invoice and Workorder conversions take anywhere from 1 to 4  hours.

2. After you have read and addressed all of these instructions, you are ready to run the Data Conversion program.

Preparatory steps for converting the  data from GTS Windows

Before  running the data conversion program, make sure that you have read the  following instructions to ensure a successful  conversion .

1. Before proceeding, please back up your GlasPacLX data.

2. Close out of all GTS Windows stations.

3. Perform the data conversion overnight or during a weekend, as this can be a time consuming process. Maintenance area  conversions take anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours. Invoice and Workorder conversions take anywhere from 1 to 20 hours.

4. After you have read and addressed all of these instructions, you are ready to run the Data Conversion program.

Running  the Data Conversion

Before  running the data conversion program, make sure that you have read the  instructions on Preparing for the Data Conversion for GlasPac DOS or GTS  Windows   .

1. Select Tools from the menu bar. Then select Run Data Conversion Program.

2. Select the Yes button.

3. Select the Next button to continue.

4. Select GlasPac DOS or GTS Windows, and then select the Next button to continue.

5. Make sure that each of the database paths are correct. If not, use the Browse buttons to point to them. Then select the Next button.

6. The Server name and Database name should fill in automatically. Select the Next button to continue.

7. Select the checkboxes of each item that you wish to convert. The conversion can be repeated later, so not  everything has to be converted at once. We recommend that you convert  "Labor, and Parts" and "Customers, Discounts, and Taxes" first, as these  things are the fastest. "Quotes, Workorders, and Invoices" should be  converted just before you are ready to go live. This gives you enough  time to straighten up all maintenance areas and train your personnel  before converting your orders, so everything will be up-to-date.

Remember: The number of years of  invoices you wish to convert will determine the time it takes to convert  them.

1. When finished, select the Next button.

2. Select whether you want to keep or overwrite existing part IDs in GlasPacLX  with the ones from GlasPac DOS or GTS Windows.  Recommendation: On the  first conversion, you may want to select the first option to replace the  existing items. The option to keep existing items is useful if you have  already done a conversion and wanted to do it again, but still want to  leave the ones currently in the GlasPacLX database.

3. Select the Next button. This is the final screen before the conversion. To clear the default data that  comes with GlasPacLX, select the Clear GlasPacLX Database button. WARNING! Make sure that you are ready to  convert. This button deletes ALL of your GlasPacLX data.

4. When the database clearing process is finished, select the Convert Data button to proceed with the data conversion.

5. If you see the "Conversion Successful" message, congratulations! Select the Done button to complete the data conversion  process. You will now be able to log in with the same usernames and passwords used for GlasPac.  If the "Conversion is complete. There were issues in converting the data." message appears, it means that perhaps only a few items were not  converted, perhaps an invoice. View the conversion log yourself and see if you can determine the source of the  problem.
